The Virginia Horse Center Foundation in Lexington, VA is at the forefront of the Virginia equine economy and hosts many horse shows as well as non-equine events such as dog shows, agriculture programs, and BMX competitions. The VHCF retained Field Sport Concepts Ltd. affiliates McKee Carson and Blackburn Architects to assist with the long-term planning for their 573 acre site including the expansion of their equestrian facilities to include two new barns, an expanded trail system, additional RV parking and campsites, and the addition of numerous amenities. New to the VHCF would be the development of a resort, visitor’s center and museum, hotel, multi-purpose field for polo and soccer, baseball field, music festival space, and renovation of an existing historic house on site for events. This includes moving an old bank barn and silo to act as expanded event space. The redesign of the property incorporates all the previously listed elements and intends to enhance the VHCF’s position within the mid-Atlantic as an equestrian destination. A large portion of the property will also be put into conservation easement ensuring its limited development.
