The Tennis Center is a recreational design/build effort for the University of Virginia encompassing demolition, redesign and construction of a tennis installation adjacent to UVA’s Gymnasium and the primary gateway to the University. Working with a world-renown tennis facility designer and a tennis court contractor nationally recognized as the expert on post-tensioned concrete, McKee Carson designed and built a premier tennis complex. After overcoming challenging site conditions, the complex now supports a wide variety of tennis uses while also serving as a site for myriad social activities. Amenities include 13 regulation courts, an exhibition court, practice area, plaza and event space, and adaptive reuse of an historic structure to serve as a headquarters for rentals, restrooms, concessions and teaching/office space. Responsibilities included site design and engineering of infrastructure for the entire facility and construction period services.
