Located just south of Charlottesville, Virginia, and whin a few miles of Thomas Jefferson's Monticello and James Monroe's Ash Lawn estate, the Kluge Estate Winery & Vineyard is one of the premier wineries in Virginia.  The winery seeks to become a destination not just for wine enthusiasts, but also for visitors who wish to come experience the breadth and beauty of the Virginia Piedmont.

The Estate asked McKee Carson to develop a master plan that was to be focused in three ways: to improve the Estate's sustainability, expand the visitor's experience, and enhance the vineyard's connection to the surrounding Piedmont landscape.  The master plan was developed in close collaboration with the Estate and included strategies for incorporating wildlife and riparian corridors through the agricultural areas, the establishment of sustainable timber management practices, and the production of biofuels to support the vineyard's mechanical equipment.
